The Saxony duck was developed in the 1930’s by Albert Franz in the Saxony Region of Germany. They are considered a great dual purpose breed with good egg production and a wonderful gourmet meat. The Saxony became a recognized breed with the American Poultry Association in 2001. According to the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy the Saxony is listed as Critical with a great need for more conservation breeders.
