The Barred Rock, also known as the Plymouth Rock, is a heritage breed dating back to the late 1800’s with origins in the colonial Northeast making this a cold hardy breed. The breed is known as a great dual purpose bird with excellent egg laying capabilities and wonderful meat qualities. The Barred Rock became a recognized breed by the American Poultry Association in 1874.
